Activities
Warm-Up:
The students will review the sound devices by playing a quick review game where they have to match the sound device with its definition.

Instruction:
The students will complete an online module that will help them see how sound elements impact the meaning of poetry. The lesson will begin with an explanation of how sound devices can be used to emphasize important phrases or lines within a poem. For each sound device, the students will read a poem. They will first be asked to determine what sound device is used within the poem, and then they will be taken through the poem to show how the different devices help them recognize the subject of the poem, or the hidden meaning.

Activities:

Students will be provided with different options to practice their knowledge of the different sound devices. Some examples are provided below. They must complete at least three of the activities.

Kinesthetic – Read each of the poems provided aloud. As you read them, try to clap out the rhythm of the poem.

Verbal/Linguistic – Print out each of the poems provided. Using a different color highlighter for each element of poetry, highlight the different sound devices within the poems.
Assessment
Using the internet, or poetry books that they have available at home, students will locate a poem that contains at least one sound device. They will post the poem to the class Wiki Site with an explanation of the sound device used, as well as how it helped them better understand the poem. They will view and respond to at least two other posts from their classmates.
